What is the Difference between Hemp oil and CBD Oil?

Last updated on June 16th, 2020

We get asked a lot, what the difference between hemp oil and CBD oil is. Many people find hemp oil on Amazon and other places around the web for a cheap price and wonder if it is the same as CBD oil. We will go into detail but here is a quick summary.

CBD oil contains cannabinoids, either just CBD or a range of them for different effects. It is extracted from the cannabis plant, often along with terpenes and trichomes contained in the plant. It is then mixed with a carrier oil like coconut oil or hemp oil. Hemp oil is usually extracted from the seed of the plant, so it doesn’t have the cannabinoids and terpenes of a full-plant extract but it has many other health benefits.

Now we are going to try and differentiate the Hemp oil from CBD Oil in more detail.

CBD Oil

CBD Oil is the stuff you want if you are looking for a range of cannabinoids in your product.

It is made by extracting cannabinoids, terpenes and trichomes from the stems, leaves, and buds of the cannabis plant.

It is through this extraction that we get the raw concentrated plant matter that we can use to make the cannabis oil or e-liquid, paste or whatever is chosen.

This extract is then mixed with a carrier oil like Hemp seed oil(more below) or coconut oil

It is sometimes known as Hemp extract rather than CBD oil because of increased chances of being told off in some locations around the world. So a bottle of CBD oil may not have any mention of CBD even if it does contain it.

CBD or Full spectrum oil has shown promising effects for all sorts like anxiety, pain, nausea, sleep, cancer and the list goes on. So if that’s what you need, don’t be fooled by the hemp seed oil we talk about below.

You can get verified CBD oils here.

Now, this can be confusing because Hemp oil can sometimes contain CBD so just if it says Hemp oil, Don’t rule it out just because of that.

The most common use of the term hemp oil is as hemp seed oil. This is an oil that is extracted from the seed, rather than the plant after its grown and doesn’t contain the cannabinoids.

It is essentially the cannabis equivalent of Olive oil.

The reason for some confusion is that it is much cheaper than CBD oil so to the untrained eye, looks like a great deal. That’s the kind of stuff you see on Amazon.

But don’t be turned away just yet. Hemp seeds are rich in protein, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and insoluble fibre. They also have a perfect balance of omega 6 and omega 3 for humans. They are a good source of tocopherols or Vitamin E antioxidants. High in essential fatty acids, hemp oil can be used to increase immunity, counteract ageing skin and improve cardiovascular health.

So hemp seed oil is great for adding to your diet in salads or other foods. You can get some here

Conclusion

Hopefully, the above is helpful to you working out whether it is hemp seed oil or CBD oil. To be clear, you can still get cannabinoids from hemp as well as marijuana, but not from hemp seeds.
